Hi, I have inherited through survivorship, my brothers residence.

I am obliged to sell in order to pay IHT.

The question I have is about household goods/furniture.

The furniture in the house is old and tatty, such that a charity would not accept it.

I want to get a house clearance to have it removed for the upcoming sale. how do I list this expense in the tax form?

Any help would be most welcome,
Stephen.

House clearance costs are administration expenses incurred after the date of death and are not deductible against IHT. So not entered on the form.

You can claim the expenses associated with the sale, that includes house clearance. I'd suggest that paying for a deep clean, window clean and possibly even a tidy up of outside are good ideas as well.

Contradicting advice here, assume the worse, and no deduction. What about value, the items are valueless to me except that I will have to pay to have them removed so perhaps a negative value?
    How to deal with this?

I think you might be confusing the rules for CGT and IHT. Apart from funeral costs no estate expenses can be deducted from IHT.

Sorry, OP, no deduction for IHT.
