Im registered keeper, bf is policyholder, claim ok??

Some guy banged into my car when it was parked and it is completely wrecked. I think it will be a write off. I am the registered keeper, my boyfriend is the policyholder. I am insured on the policy.
But I've just realised it says on our motor certificate that my boyfriend is stated as being the registered keeper or legal owner of the car (as the motor certificate has sat in my drawer for a long time as this is the first problem/accident we've had.
I am the one making the claim and I know I'll have to send off documents such as the v5 and motor certificate to make a claim. So the v5 form says i am the registered keeper but the policy says my boyfriend is. This is a mistake. Will i still get money for a new car if my car is wrote off??Will there be a problem?? Please help as I'm worried out of my mind. Thanks.

It all depends on the insurer, but a lot of them will see this ok, especially if you're living together. Phone them to make sure, as nobody will be able to tell you for sure.0

thanx. my insurer is churchill.0

thanx. my insurer is churchill.
usually this is ok with churchill if the registered keeper is the policy holders "spouse or partner" but you would be best to call and checkMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
Call and ask them. There has to be an insurable interest in the car, hence insurers dont usually mind if a spouse is the owner as assets are considered joint. If you live at the same address, then it shouldnt be a problem but call and advise them before sending the documents in.0

yeah we live at the same address. im just a bit worried about ringing them incase they say well it says on ur motor certificate he is the owner. suppose ill have to ring them eventually.0

When we had a claim last year and hubby didn't have to send off any documents at all. Are you sure you will have to or are you guessing?
Also, I hope the claim goes ok for you but please take a minute or two each year to read over the policy particulars and sort out any mistakes immediately. Like others have said, I think you will be ok but a minute or two reading over docs could save all this worry for you.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. i just presumed i would have to send documents away. that would be good if i didnt need to. who was you insurer if you dont mind me asking shelly? yeah i definately will in the future. thanks.0

.
some insurers will occasionally ask for the docs for a normal claim (ie one where they are authorising repairs) and some dont, however all insurers should request the vehicle docs if it it a total loss (aka write off) so if the vehicle is repairable, the op may not be asked to supply them,
however the op should confirm with the ins co anyway ref the registered keeper details, especially if down the line the ins co ask about it, and they realise ph had noticed the details were wrong and they had not amended/confirmed what the ins co position is, as i said previously though, churchill are usually ok with the registered keeper being the spouse of the policy holderMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0
