FIT Overpayment

I changed my FIT metre after installing batteries in April 2022. All documentation was provided and approved. Meter readings were provided from inception based on Export. Subsequent meter readings were approved for the next 3 years, at least 50% with photo evidence showing Export readings. The company have now come back to me and have said the readings were incorrect and should have been NET readings. I was not informed of this on inception and my Export readings were never challenged. Now they want me to repay £1506!! I feel that the must shoulder some responsibility for the errors.

It's a massive mistake to install a battery the wrong side of the FIT generation meter. Those wishing to retain FIT generation payments should go for an AC coupled battery and leave the original system (everything outside the generation meter) well alone. A net metering setup is a crude workaround which should be avoided without fully understanding the implications; not least how to read and submit the net reading.
This is an issue with your installer rather than your FIT supplier. You've been submitting the wrong reading and seemingly not understood the change. You've been receiving payments as if your generation was the total output of the combined solar and battery system, this would erroneously include the output from every time the battery has charged from the grid, hence the need for net metering.
