Temporarily closed business for refurb - do staff get wages?

Two members of my family work in the same business place which is closed/will be closed for around 3 weeks while the building gets a refurb/new construction to part of the original building.
During this build, they both have had a few days as holidays, but for the remainder they have rota'd off.
My question is will they both recieve their wages for the place being closed during this construction work whe given days off on the rota?

I think this will be a question back to the company. Chances are they will need to have this as holiday, even if it's not when they want it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. They have had 4 days as hols, been given 10 days off on the rota and worked for 2 in the sixteen day period.I know they will get holiday pay and paid for the 2 days, it's the other ones I'm unsure of...0

What do their contracts say? Are they guaranteed a certain no. of hours? Is there a clause about lay-off periods?
(Having said that, the local cinema paid everyone something approximating their 'regular' hours when they were closed for a similar refurb. But I don't recall them having a layoff clause - it's a while ago and it was my sons working there not me so my interest was slightly academic.)Signature removed for peace of mind1 -
It depends on their contract. Some contacts say "we will pay you a contracted X hours a week" in which case they will get X hours pay per week. Other contracts say "from time to time we may reduce your hours due to the needs of the business" In which case they may get nothing0

if they have contracted hours they should be offered those hours at an agreed alternative ( e.g. next nearest branch, possibly with milegage ) or paid for their contracted hours despite no work
if they are ona sero -hours / flexible contract they may find themselves without income0 -
Assuming they aren't on a ZHC then
"Your employer can ask you to stay at home or take unpaid leave if there’s not enough work for you...You should get your full pay unless your contract allows unpaid or reduced pay lay-offs."
