Cheque made out to the estate of deceased person

I have been sent a cheque from a life insurance policy in respect of my late husband.  I am the sole beneficiary of the estate and there is no liability for inheritance tax, I am also an executor.  The cheque is made out to the estate of ........  Can I pay this in to my bank account, his accounts have been closed.

    you may need an account for the "estate of XXXX" in order to cash it.  Or possibly go back and ask that it be made out to you as executor - assuming your bank will accept it.  It's standard for executors to keep the money separate from their own £££.

    Sorry for your loss.  I would ring your banks bereavement team first.  When my husband died I found Lloyds team were very helpful.

    I had the same I think. Opened a new current account with Santander stating that it was to be used to gather estate proceeds, and paid it in there no problem.
