Scam - How to put protective mark on credit file ?

This seemed the best board to use - and I couldn't find the information I need using the search function - certainly it didn't produce any recent post.
I have been targeted in a scam and realise I should do what I can to protect my finances.
How do I do that? That is, other than manually checking my credit files (which I have never done before), what can I do?

Ideally you want to be checking your credit files, from all 3 CRAs on a regular basis. The companies to contact are Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. You can request free copies of your statutory credit reports. There's no need to sign up for a free trial of any paid services, although you might need to register for an online account with them. As for identity protection services, Experian also offers a credit file lock as a paid service. Never used it myself but thought it might be of interest: https://www.experian.co.uk/consumer/identity.html2 -
