A&L

Was abroad when a direct debit was to be paid, unfortunatly there was not enough money in the account to pay it. Once back in the country, and as it was a Bank Holiday I was unable to pay money into the account until the Tuesday(meaning five days afterwards) Did'nt know that one is charged £34 for a direct debit not being paid due to lack of money.
On the Tuesday I put enough money in to cover two direct debits BUT little did i realise they had charged me £34 and then because of this there was not enough money in my account for the second direct debit, they charged me a further
£34. Then because of being overdrawn(after taking their two £34s) they charged me a further £25 plus another £25 as it was for longer than five days.
All this is going on with me still believing both direct debits had been paid.
Unreal......

Phoned the bank regulators and was told it's in the banks rights and perhaps I should get in contact with my MP about how much banks charge and go about their business. As basically it's only MP's that can make a differance.

As Martin has started a petition about advertising debt companies during kids time perhaps we need another one about bank charges?

Thanks for reading, don't feel any calmer but thanks anyway.

I had this problem - but I was so angry that I went to the branch and calmly said that I would switch all my family's accounts to Nationwide if they didn't refund all the charges. I took the bank statements with me to show how much cash they'd lose. They agreed and refunded the £50 (2 x £25).

How do you think they make their multi-billion profits?? Talk about living in a democracy!! Absolute rubbish! Forget the imaginary "terrorists" and focus on our once great country and see what it has become. "terrorism" is merely a lie and diversion. Nice work Blair.

Err ... all these charges are in your terms and conditions, and if you don't like paying them then you should run your finances better. "I was abroad and the account ran low" frankly isn't much of an excuse. One word: planning.

I agree with Stonk. YOU made the mistake; YOU agreed to the T&C when you opened the account; if they changed and you did not like them YOU should have moved bank - YOU should be aware of bank charges otherwise you are not reading all the bumph they send out. I would suggest getting in touch with the bank and negotiating the charges with them ... you should be able to get a minimum of half refunded ... if the manager is in a good mood you may even get them all refunded. You live and you learn ... bet you won't do that again :D
