Terminal Illness Discounts?

Options
I was wondering if anyone knew of discounts available for people with terminal illness? Utilities, council tax etc....

Both the person with the diagnosis and his spouse are both above retirement age, so it appears the only state benefit available is the Attendance Allowance which can be fast tracked.

I'm struggling to find any other schemes that can financially support them...

Many thanks in advance

A lot is going to depend on their financial position. Are they currently on any benefits?

You could ask about their social tariffs - if you have are getting attendance allowance you might qualify for some of those.

There is very little for people on AA. We are the inferior end of benefit receivers, who are not even worthy of help with transport, unless able to get one of the limited places on an ambulance doing hospital appointments.

When social tariffs were first brought out, AA was not listed, but when questions about this appeared in the media, a few, lesser known companies extended their listings. However,  but a number of companies did not include any benefits which were independent of income.

If they are receiving AA it's possible that they may now qualify for Pension Credit if they don't already.

If they are already receiving Pension Credit then this may increase when AA is received but they will have to let the PC people know about it.

    Thanks all.

No, they don't qualify for pension credit or any other benefits currently. It's not so much that the money is needed now, I am just concerned for my mother as when the inevitable happens her household income will drop by 65% and it will undoubtedly be a struggle. Was hoping that with some cost savings a nest egg could be build up to help see her through.

Just trying to get the attendance allowance sorted now, that will be something I guess.

If I have any joy, I will update this post.
