Getting car insurance with an open claim

My car was involved in an accident at the beginning of December 2024. The other driver admitted liability at the time and from my perspective it is fairly clear that they were at fault - my husband (named driver on my policy) was on the roundabout and the other car drove straight through the give way markings, onto the roundabout, and into the side of my car without even slowing down.
Unfortunately the other party changed their mind and not only blamed my husband but also claimed personal injury (after stating at the time and in a text message that they were not hurt). My insurer is fortunately in agreement with me that it was entirely the other party's fault, and are not giving in so the claim remains open. My car was written off, my insurance paid out and I've since gotten a new car which I continued the previous policy on.
That policy is up for renewal next month and I don't know how to deal with getting quotes. Current insurer has a renewal quote of over £800 (last year was £200, admittedly with a very different car), so I'd like to shop around. However with the claim still open how do I do that? Am I better off just staying with my current provider and shopping around next year?

Just shop around, answering questions accurately0

Its often just easier to go with the current insurer renewal.
Suppose it depends on how unreasonable a hike do you feel it is bearing in mind it's a very different car as to whether it's worth going to a lot of effort shopping about

Normally an open claim is a fault claim because of the uncertainty and therefore your NCD will be impacted (if you have any and depending on if you have NCD Protection or not). If you stay with your current insurer then normally things are updated automatically if the claim is settled in the next policy year, you would need to inform your new insurers of the outcome if you go elsewhere, they may or may not update the information if, for example, your NCD was reinstated because they concede liability1 -

You may want to speak to the seller before buying on what will happen in the future should the claim be closed non-fault in terms of any return premiums etc.1
