How about a day at the races? He'd have to wrap up warm this weather though (could use all those jumpers he's got). How about an audio book or even an actual book? What about finding a childhood comic that he used to read.

Flowers are also good too - my chap loves it when I get him flowers (plants are no good because he kills them).

My FIL was fascinated by DS's remote control helicopter....
  • My Gran is 100 and needs nothing....my Aunts are around 70 and similarly, need nothing. I get them all gifts from World Vision (www.greatgifts.org) - virtual gifts for people who really need things.

They all love them and sit and compare what they got...

    Hi All,
Hoping you will have some bright ideas. Am struggling for gifts for my OH grandad and my Grandad, one is 73 and one is 83 (ie. one in the war, one not!). Its OH grandads b'day this week and each xmas and birthday is harder and harder to buy for - for both of them.

They get slippers, smelly sets, jumpers, cardigans, sweets, biscuits, war books, war films and recently been getting Grandad stuff for his computer etc.

Anyway I'm completely stuck for OH's grandad for his birthday next week. The poor bloke must have a room full of jumpers, shelves full of biscuits and a bathroom full of smellies.

    Anyone got any inspiration???? :D

i have elderly neighbours(both in their mid 80`s)
i usually make them some homemade chocolates and put thm in a nice gift box. for xmas this year i did them a hamper of homemade goodies and put a few of asda`s mini taster bottles of wine in too!
Going it alone and feeling the pinch

Interested in railways? A trip abroad on Eurostar from the new St Pancras?

....as per earlier suggestions a magazine subscription would be good as there are specialist magazines on just about every subject under the sun these days

I bought my Dad (83) a secondhand Scalectrix set. ( I know that sounds mean But the new ones are a bit expensive). CAnnot get him off it, he is now making hills (papier mache) using ornaments around the house into people watching etc and wants more accessories so he can make the spare bedroom into a formula one track!! Never had one as a child could not afford one later in life and says he has a childhood now!! If not that maybe a train set or Lego, he has also coyly expressed an interest in Meccanno as could not afford it as a child!

Bless them we do not realise how lucky we are!
