Thanks everyone.
I really appreciate all your input.
As per my other thread (as highlighted by Marcon), I am going through a separation at the moment and I am trying to avoid a nervous breakdown.
The thought of a large mortgage, with no partner to support me if I became unemployed or ill, terrifies me.
My only option to try and bring down my mortgage by either:
1. Buying a flat but I know that they come with their own issues when it comes to leaseholds or
2. Buy somewhere, in the South East, that is more affordable.
I have been looking at this second option and you can find properties in Colchester and Gillingham/Chatham that are much more affordable. The problem with these is that, whilst they are commutable to London, they could end up costing me well over £6,000.00 in annual travel if I ended up in a job where I did need to be in London for more than 3 days per week.

London weighting still exists. Roles generally pay about £6000 more. Many commutes cost £6000 a year. If you have to commute every day, this could wipe out any salary increase. So you may want to work locally. You will have to do the maths.
Many companies are using computer software to select CVs. Make sure your CV is up to date, no more than 2 sides of A4 and contains all the keywords the software will scan for.

Many offices are now pushing workers to come back to the office too.0
