    I don't get this from troubled tarts..."An ASHP at just 300% efficiency".  Perhaps this is true in mild weather but when the outside temp drops to below zero I am sure the efficiency drops considerably.  Many ASHPs have simple heating elements in them to compensate for this.

    It's even true in winter. Ours runs at 300% efficient at -2oC. Over the year closer to 400% efficient and that's for a 10 year old heat pump. House ran at 20-22oC all year round. 

    The backup elements are generally used to boast hot water from 55oC to 60oC on older units but many modern ones don't need it for that either.

    Many don't understand heat pumps so not surprised.
