Trying to get refund for cinema membership bought from a third party

Hi all, new here and hoping someone can help.

I used to work for Haven (Bourne Leisure) and part of their benefits scheme was discounted memberships to loads of places, including Cineworld. So bought myself and my partner an unlimited membership each, except about 3-4 months in to the 12 month membership our local cinema closed.

Contacted Cineworld and they said to contact the third party as the membership was redeemed with a promo code. I’ve since left Haven and no longer have access to my account where I bought the memberships from, and have no proof on emails as they locked me out of that work email. I can’t find a contact number or email to tell them about my query, and hope someone on here may have an answer or some advice.

Thanks in advance

    *EDIT*

Cinema subscription was bought 2nd September 2024, and cinema closed on December 30th 2024. Purchase on bank statement shows up as your-saving.com / Reward Gateway if that helps

My employer offers rewards using the same platform. If you try the”can’t access your account” option it gives me an option to change the email address I’m registered with, does that work?

Are you sure you have cancellation rights? These are normally the sort of things that at best you get a 14 day cooling off period.

You can contact Reward Gateway via https://success.rewardgateway.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360000208538

Unfortunately not. Because I’m no longer an employee, when I try to log back in, it just says “Your account has been locked. Contact your support person and try again”. There’s no clear email or phone number for help either

It looks to me that a block allocation of Cineworld memberships were bought on B2B basis by Haven(Bourne). Haven then offered these memberships as an employee benefit (perk) to their staff.

If so, you would be better going back to Haven to ask them about the T&Cs of the deal as it would have formed part of your contract of employment.

Many employee benefits are only valid while you work for that employer.

Did the mebership state it was for your local cinema only or is it for any Cineworld cinema?

I recall a similar thread on here before.  The closure of one cinema doesn't render the membership obsolete, assuming it was a UK-wide membership.

Was the subscription for that one cinema only, or for any Cineworld cinema?

If the latter I wouldn't have thought you have a claim from what i have read on previous threads on here.

It could’ve been used anywhere. However this was the email I received from Cineworld just under 3 weeks before the cinema was due to close:

So it was the case of opting in to keep the membership rather than opting out. They then later said that because the membership was claimed through a promo code from a 3rd party, to contact the third party for a refund.

I communicated on an online chat to the company that ran the rewards scheme (your-saving.com) and they said because my account has been locked (as I left Haven) their records no longer contain anything about my purchases, even though I have clear bank statements with proof of purchase.

    So I’m a bit stuck..

Try going back to Cineworld & ask to transfer to another cinema.
