Hi,
A bit complex, but was looking into my Mum's state pension. She retires in May 2029, currently has 22 yrs NI contributions, 13yrs short of the 35 years to get full state pension.
She has been looking after my child, and her other grandson since 2021.
I have submitted a form last month to gift her 2022-2023 NI contribution under the Adult Specified Childcare. And intend to do this for 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.
My Sister intends to do the same for 2025-2026, 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 which will give her 6 more years.
So Mum has 11 years (before 5th April) in which she can plug the gap, and for 7 years, it will cost c£5k.
So to my calculation she would have 22 + 6 gifted +7 bought = 35.
I am waiting for a phonecall to double check my workings. My only other concern is 2027-2028 - Sister can't submit form until Oct 2028, so hopefully, 7 months is enough time to be credited that final year, in time for when she can claim from May 2029.
Does the above sound plausible?

Why do you think 35 years is at all relevant to her?
Have you even checked what she has accrued so far?0 -
35yrs is relevant to her, and as per my post, she's accrued 22yrs.0

I've counted 22yrs of NI contributions, and if she continues to pay for next 4 years, she will get £168pw, so not full amount of £221pw. She can't work for next 4 years, so trying to find ways to top up.0 -
Post up some anonymous details and someone will sense check the figuresCurrent weekly £££.pp amount up to April 2024.
Number of full NI years 15-16 and earlier
Number of full NI years 16-17 and later
Tax year you reach state retirement
Any COPE amount. If you have "You've been in a contracted-out pension scheme" on your forecast then click

You still haven't answered the question as to whether you have checked her forecast online. If you have then please post the details as suggested by molerat. You seem to have admirable self-belief but the expert dogs on this website don't know whether that belief is well-founded, so please supply the impartial data requested.

It is £158 amount up to April 2024
Number of NI years for 15-16 or earlier: 17yrs
Number of NI years for 16-17 and later: 5yrs
Tax Year you reach state pension: 2029-2030
I can't see any 'cope' amount I think,0 -

I am afraid your numbers and narrative do not make sense. If she has £158 at April 2024 then 4 more years will take her to £183.28 and not the £168 you have quoted. With £158 for 22 years she needs another 10 to reach the max so a total of 32 years, as I said, something does not make sense there.0
