Do your mobile phone support eSIM?
You may consider Lycamobile france eSIM if it does.
It is currently doing 8 euro for 200GB1 -
One point the OP hasn't clarified is how much roaming data their network includes, assuming they have EU roaming included, ie is it the full 20 GB (UK data)? Often roaming data is less. Some networks have dropped free EU roaming...1

One thing to bear in mind: A campsite is *probably* out in the countryside somewhere. What will the mobile coverage be like? Specifically the 4G/5G coverage.

Just to update this discussion. Notwithstanding what people have said re poor reception at camp sites (been experiencing that for years) I have purchased a ZTE MF920 which came with a "free" SIM card (whoopee doo) and of course it has to be activated and part of the activation process is selecting a payment plan. I chose unlimited GB at £20. It all works nicely at home; I'll report back on its success or failure when I return from hols!0

As promised, an update. There was poor reception for those who purchased the Camp WiFi, you could see happy campers clustered round the restaurant area where the signal was strongest. We experienced poor phone reception on our mobiles but once we had turned on the ZTE with its Smarty SIM, we were fine and had only one problem following a major thunderstorm but that was general for the whole campsite and included a power outage for most of the day. Word of warning - Smarty don't tell you (unless you go looking among its terms and conditions) that, despite the SIM offering "UNLIMITED" data, they have a "European Fair Usage" limit of 11 GB per charging period. We ran up against this so had to buy another 9 GB to see out our last six days. Overall it was still cheaper than stumping up for the campsite's WiFi. I have now turned off the auto renew on the Smarty SIM and will attempt to sell the ZTE.1
