Item won via Prize Raffle - Item Faulty - Company ceased trading

Bit of a weird one here and I am trying to get my head round it so I know if I can do anything and what that might be.

Situation:

- Back towards end of 2023 i entered a prize Raffle draw online (buy tickets and if your ticket number is drawn, you win said prize).

- I won said prize (expensive coffee machine).

- Jump forward to start of 2025 the item becomes faulty. Not working etc.

- I look at old emails to find the item. I am able to see the company shipped it VIA their Business Currys account. I check the machine on Currys and it has a 2 year guarantee on it.

- I send an email to the company I won it from and got no response. I check their social media and they recently put a post up saying they have stopped operating.

- I try to chat to Currys to see if they can help but because it is a Business Currys purchase, only that team can help.

- I speak to the Currys Business team and they will not speak to me unless I own the account which sent me the coffee machine. Which of course isn't me.

I can't get the company to speak to them because they won't respond now. I have tried email, social media direct messages and a WhatsApp.

- I have also tried the manufacturer directly, they responded saying because it was sent to me VIA a prize Raffle website the buyer needs to contact them for issues, and they cannot help.

Is there anything I can do at all? What do you recommend?
I have a dud machine sat in my kitchen now.

Any help is appreciated 👏

Get it repaired yourself?  Hopefully the repair costs would still mean you had acquired a good coffee machine at a decent price, being the repair costs.

I don't think the Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies to goods won in raffles and, in any case, if the company you bought the ticket from no longer exists then you don't really have anybody to pursue under the CRA.

Similarly I don't see that you have any claim against Currys or the manufacturer if you didn't buy the item in the first place - which you didn't.

Did you register any type of warranty when you received it ?

That might get around the issue of any rights being with the raffle company being the actual purchaser

    Maybe.

However my experience of warranties, particularly for an 'expensive coffee machine', is that they are even fussier about the actual retail purchase than CRA.

For example, while CRA just asks for (any) proof of purchase such as a bank statement, the warranty probably requires an original till receipt for a claim.

What make is this expensive coffee machine?

A expensive can vary from person to person.

And an ‘expensive coffee machine’ can either be repairable if it’s by an actual coffee machine company like Gaggia (as it’s designed to last for 15-20 years) or it can be more disposable if it’s made for nespresso pods etc.

    (I think Nespresso's warranty is 3 years.)
Regarding expensive commercial-grade machines, which presumably this was if it was via a business service, would likely need servicing and so-on.
