Mehefin, we cross posted and coincidentally both posted about clerk jobs, I hope you find someone who will stick with it but since the advent of email it is so much easier for people to complain about the slightest thing and become very personal if they don't get their own way, it takes a thick skin to put up with it.
TA, I retired quite young (to look after parents) but the grandchildren didn't come along until I was in my sixties.11 -
Re retirement. I miss the banter but not some of the staff, specifically our new boss which was the reason I left when I did. I do feel guilty sometimes sitting down reading a book then I give myself a shake and carry on. This winter has been long as I want to get out into the garden and it's too cold to enjoy it at the mo, but I'm happy with my own company so it's so far, so good!12

Morning all, thanks for starting us off @Scarlet. Yesterday turned out to be a much better day weather-wise than forecast so I'm hoping today may be the same. It's supposed to be mainly cloudy with sunny intervals and the light occasional shower possible. In other words, expect anything! It's still quite chilly at times, so the heating remains on early mornings and evenings, at least for now.
When DS arrived yesterday we shared a late breakfast after which we chatted for quite a while and he lent his muscles to do a couple of little jobs for me. All in all, a very pleasant morning. After that, I wasn't really in the mood for doing anything in particular so just pottered around for a bit and then downed tools for some reading and crafting. TV was a bit of a washout - sorry, not a sports fan - but today's offerings do look slightly better. I need to get the bread maker on, bake banana bread and cook a chicken casserole for dinner. After that I'll have a rummage in the fabric stash so I can knock up a couple of extra shopping bags for my bag/pocket - I had to buy a carrier bag the other day and it didn't sit well!
I had a nice surprise yesterday when my neighbour gifted me a door mat, I think she gets them from her workplace at a discount. I'll have to remember to take it in tonight to give the cleaner a free run to sweep/mop the hallway in the morning and then put it back out again.
@Scarlet - Glad you enjoyed your break in Whitby, lovely place.
@Gers - I've already done my spreadsheets and am now waiting for the bills to come in, they seem to be running late this year.
@mehefin - Fingers crossed you don't have to wait too long for a replacement council clerk.
@TA - No, you're not the only one who didn't miss work after retiring. I definitely didn't (and still don't) although DH always struggled with it. Like @snoozer, I enjoyed the job but not the office politics. And as @-taff says, you can do what you want, when you want, or not at all!
@snoozer - Wow, that is a busy week ahead! Enjoy.
Right, time for another cuppa and then I'll get myself organised. Have a relaxing day, take care, hugs where wanted or needed. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.13 -
Morning all and thanks for the start @ScarletRibbons I’m glad you had a good time away. We loved Whitby when we visited a couple of years ago.DD and I ended up in a new neighbours ‘man cave’ for the England rugby match. DH had a prior engagement and asked us to go as ‘placeholders’ in case we don’t get invited again. So it was DD and I and 7 men, 3 of whom I’d met once before. They were very welcoming and we had a good giggle.Lovely and bright here today so will potter in the garden. I’m starting a part time role tomorrow but aside from Friday, I will be doing online training from home this week. I don’t feel ready to retire (at 55) but don’t want a full time job, so this is the compromise 🤞🏻
Dinner is roasted gammon, cauliflower cheese and some Cavelo Nero.Have a good day all

Morning all
Dry and bright here perfect day for drying the washing which is doing its think in the wm.Roast pork for dinner tonight so will get that all prepped this morning I will do enough for tomorrow as well for an easy dinner, I want to clean out the boot cupboard this morning there are shelves in there but (it’s mainly OH) the boots and shoes all seem to end up on the floor in a mess so I will empty and clean it, the light bulb also needs changing so will do that while it’s empty.
I bought some reduced double cream yesterday so will make some garlic butter with it today, I make a big batch roll it in Greaseproof into a sausage shape and then cut it and freeze it in portions it’s so handy when you need garlic butter just to grab a couple out.
Bathroom to be cleaned today and hoover and polish upstairs.
Scarlett glad you had a good break xx
Have good days all and take care xx12 -
Coxy, guess who's making cauliflower cheese to go with our gammon? A match made in heaven.10

Morning everyone
Duller today but at least it's dry - I have my bedding out on the line, it should be almost dry. My clothes prop has snapped in half so I'll have a look on Amazon for a new one.
I've been down to mam and dads this morning and done several jobs on the laptop for them - they were both cross that their council tax has gone up till I worked it out and it's actually just £6 a month so that sounded better. They do get the single person rate, with dad having dementia. I haven't had my bill yet, but it will have gone up now I have LCWRA.
He was away down memory lane this morning, he wanted the radio ready so he can listen to the Newcastle match later....he'll fall asleep after half an hour but it's sorted for him. He was telling me how he and his friend used to go to watch Newcastle play at home from age 8 by themselves on the train from his home town about 20 miles away!! His uncle took them the first time so they knew the way...and then they went on their own, apparently it cost 9 pence to sit on the wall at the front or you could sit in the part with no cover for 3 pence.
I love hearing him talk like that...just meandering from one subject to another.
I had a lovely day with little one yesterday, the sun was shining so we spent a lot of time outside - playing with her sandpit, balls, hoops, everything out of the shed basically! She also had a couple of rides on her bike out the front, we have lovely smooth paths and roads on my estate, perfect for bikes and scooters. She is still getting very tired, with her sugars still up and down, but fingers crossed she's on the mend. Not sure what's happening with school this week, she used to love it but has lost all her confidence, and thinks she needs to be with her mummy in case she gets ill again. She is eating again - not really proper meals, but bits of whatever she fancies, when she wants to eat, but is still on her fortified milk several times a day and an overnight glucose feed.
Right I'm waffling, though to be fair I did get my jobs done before I went out this morning, so am going to have a lazy afternoon reading. I made pulled pork for my tea last night and have some left for tonight, so very easy.
I'd love to retire but I don't get my pension for another 10 years!!
Hope everyone has a good day xx

Dp1, when I told my children a couple of years ago that their Aunt had broken a toe falling over the clothes prop they both said "what's a clothes prop?"8

@snoozer - my sister used to be the manager of a 120 unit apartment complex. She once had a call for maintenance to come to change the light bulb in a lamp. Another time it was to come get the boa constrictor off the fence - there really was one there.
One of our universities puts out a warning list for professors about terms the incoming students might not understand any more. Or "famous" names they won't recognize. I used to write books and belonged to a writer's association and it really helped.7
