HMRC still checking

Just listened to Martin’s podcast. I have checked my NI statement to assess if I have gaps. I do, but when clicking to get more details on the years 2006 - 2019 I get this message. If I decide to pay a voluntary top up before the deadline of 5 April, how can I do it if the info isn’t there on these years by that date? Has anyone else got this message?

We are checking this year to see if it counts towards your pension for years 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19

The only way to clear that message is to contact HMRC.  The usual reason is that you were registered as self employed and did not pay class 2.  The only real chance you have is booking a call back and that should hold the clock on the cut off Request a call back to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions - GOV.UK  You could also try contacting HMRC by phoning spot on opening time to be in with a chance.

Exactly what Molerat said, mine was same, self employed as a landlord, but HMRC class rental income as investment income as it comes under 'Income from property' on the tax return so the deduct no N.I unless you argue the case.

Because mine was showing "Still checking" and said something like 'you don't need to do anything' I waited 5 years before I sorted it - by ringing them.
Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.
