Employer changing hours to 40 and i'm none the wiser

My employer has changed hours for better money with some teams and I haven't even had the courtesy of being told whether mine are changing or not - it would take "novices" to a higher salary level than me with 2 years service and a role with greater responsibility.  Is it ethics or law?

Certainly lawful.  The employer can pay any employee what they want as long as the employee is willing to receive it and it is not below NMW.

What ethics are you thinking about?  If the other people are working more hours than you why shouldn't they receive a higher salary?
I see that you think more responsibility entitles you to more annual pay even if you are working fewer hours when, even if you were working the same or more hours, you could lawfully receive less.  Are you putting that into the "ethics" question?

OP appears to be conflating  two things

    1.  Changes in working hours / defintion of  full time

    2. the  effective hourly  rate  ( whether  explicit  - i.e. hourly  paid  and/or  required to record working hours  or implicit - i.e. salary for a   'typical' base   working hours week )  of the role

are the 'novices'   working a longer working week  that the OP ?

what are the effective hourly  rates in question ?

there is also a Job Evaluation  question here , as some 'common sense'  views othe  responsibilities and seniority of a role  are not borne out if a proper  JE  process is applied

If the change doesn't impact you, why would the matter be raised at all with you? It's neither unethical nor unlawful, but if you're bothered, why post here when you could simply ask your employer?
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
