I have started to use this app and have some concerns about not being available to me. My questions are,
1. if I delete the app can I still log in via browser
2. if I loose my phone with the app active can I still log in via a browser.

What exactly do you mean by that?
1. Yes
2. If you lose your phone the app is active but still requires a log in with your security number or biometrics, so unless your phone doesn't lock after a time and you have saved that number in an unprotected file you'll be fine. Logging in via a browser will not be affected.

The big caveat is the practical consideration - if your phone with the banking app is the same physical device you use to receive your OTP login codes, then if you lost your phone you would be unable to login anywhere until you had access to it again. I'd highly recommend you install your banking apps on a separate physical device, to avoid this issue.0 -
Just to emphasise this, forget about the app. you need your phone to receive OTPs from Santander to login, set up new payees, authorise payments etc. when using Online (web-based) Banking.
Lose the phone, you lose online access to Santander.
Putting the app onto a second device gives you an alternative access method if your primary device is not available.0 -
