Hi All

Im having problems sending and receiving emails. This has just occurred today. I have checked with my isp providers website and there are no problems logged for today. I disabled my antivirus (tesco/panda security) and the problem disappears. I am not sure what to do to overcome this problem as I do not want to permanently disable my anitvirus program. Antivirus updated last night so am assuming something has changed but dont know what. I am currently on microsoft outlook 2000 on vista but will be changing over to windows mail in the next few days as there have been a few niggles since changing to vista.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, so what's the problem exactly? You getting an error, if so what is it?

Well if the problem goes away if you close 'panda' down, then do so, collect your email and then restart it. Or uninstall it and install something else. Or open the program and look along the menu bar for 'Help' or click the 'F1' key on your keyboard and then look for 'Support' to see what options are availabel to you. As without knowing what 'Panda' is exactly, it's difficult to ascertain what the problem maybe, especially considering you don't seem to be getting an error message.

If you are getting an error message, then include it in a follow up post and someone will be able to find out what's wrong I'm sure.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

Just to update I am now thinking that this is a problem with my provider. I can now receive email whether my antivirus security is on or off. I still cannot send emails. Earlier before I posted this message I sent an eamil with the antivirus off but that is no longer the case so I am inclined to think it is nothing to do with my antivirus protection.

I am getting an error message. It is ""the smpt server name you specified cannot be found". The smpt server name listed under the error message is the correct name for my provider.

Panda is the name of my antivirus.

    Thanks

Are you sure it says 'smpt' and not 'smtp' as it should say 'smtp' (simple message transfer protocol'. So ensure that the letters are in the correct order, otherwise it won't find the server. Also make sure there isn't any spaces between the letters it should be 'smtp.tesco.net' not 'stmp.tesco.net'.

If the letters S-M-T-P are in the correct order in the settings of the program, then yes it's your providers fault. If they aren't, and you've had to enter the settings yourself and mixed the order of the letters up. Then it's your fault I am afraid.
Panda is the name of my antivirus.

It must be this one then I imagine: http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/support/?sitepanda=particulares

    Hi ABH

It is smtp on the message just a typo on my behalf. So I can assume it my provider. I did sent them an email earlier today but have not heard back yet. My antivirus is pandasecurity.

    Thanks for all your help.
