Hi
ive 3 palm tress in half beer barrels they are about 6 ft high. The soil within the pots is rock solid. I’ve bought some bags of multi purpose compost to top them up with but I’m just wondering if I need to be addressing the soil that’s already in the pots. Don’t think it’s been touched other than weeded since I planted them years ago. The They look really well I’m just not sure if the soil needs attention. Thankyou

Palm trees are adapted to cope with tough growing conditions, and as it is soil in the barrels, that will be better for trees than multipurpose compost. Besides, you will probably find roots filling the soil and difficulty removing much of it.If it's possible, removing a shallow top layer and replacing with John Innes No3 with added grit might be all the 'refresh' your trees will need.“Appropriately, 2020 helped me see more clearly.” Comment on YouTube.3
