Total Loss - Inflated Repair Estimate

Options
Hi All,

My car has been deemed a total loss by insurance company due to being over the 60% repair threshold/market value. It a car I bought 6months ago for almost 24k and repairs have been estimated at £16,455 (for context the car was traveling less than 10mph and hit a concrete bollard in a petrol station si wasnt expecting at all that it couldnt be repaired)
When I asked for the damage report/estimate from approved repairer I have noticed that although there was only damage to one tyre, they have actually included 4 new tyres in cost of repairs. Now the problem is the rest of repairs are mainly panels, sill, doors and respraying but there is a number of items that make no sense to average Joe but my concern is, if they have included extra items such as 3 additional tyres that aren't affected/required.... is there other stuff which is included to over inflate the estimate?

Is it possible I can ask for a 2nd opinion on the repairs?

Panels (I'm guessing more than one) door and sill is almost certainly a write off in today's world.

Just visit the Copart website to see all the minor damaged Cat S vehicles for auction.

Respray costs alone could be over £5,000 from an approved repairer.

If you're keen to keep the car, you could negotiate with the insurer, buy the car back and get it repaired yourself?

What is the vehicle?  Parts for some are far more expensive than others.

The garage get almost nothing, or absolutely nothing, for a total loss so its in their interests to have a quote that makes it repairable.

yes more than one panel/door, and a wing. Just seemed concerning that only one tyre was damaged yet they quote for 4 replacements. I have asked for settlement with retained salvage as well as full settlement so will see what they say.

If its 4wd the garage will be aware if they replace just one tyre it can kill the 4wd differential if the other three tyres are worn.

even if another garage could do it for cheaper and make it work

thats a lot of damage to be fixed

i would personally rather they scrap it and i go replace with a car that's not 56% damaged
