i would suggest if you can go varible direct debut, then that would be the best option, that way you do not stack credit with your supplier and only pay for what you use, and i have learned this lesson with Octopus, who i left almost 6 weeks ago, and still no final bill and £200 plus in credit that they have refused to refund so far.

Horrible company if they have to do anything but supply lekky, as the moment you have to contact them to fix a issue on anything, they are a utter nighmare, but are quick enough to bill and take your cash once a month, they are 100% on that score. lol

This isn't great news. I'm in the exact same boat with BG and was planning to move to Octopus. I did phone Octopus earlier today, was told I may wait longer as I'm not a customer, was connected to an agent in under 3 minutes.
Overwhelmingly Octopus are a good company and will do what you ask.

A lot of people have failed to understand there are many hoops to go through when a customer leaves and the final credit return and in fact most don't realise just take out the credit before you initiate a switch is the best option if on DD.

As others have said just ask to be put on variable monthly direct debit once switched over and all will be good.

I have checked other suppl(iers) (Octopus) who do have a positive reputation, however I am quoting to save about £50 with them annually via the same method.
Have you compared unit rates?  The difference between BG and Octopus quotes might just be different estimates of your annual use. Direct Debit normally saves around 5%.

It’s worth noting that Octopus do, typically, allow customers full control of their DD through an online account, so you could set it to whatever value you like and make changes to that value anytime. You could even set the DD to £1 to get the discount and just continue paying manually in full each month if that’s what you prefer.

Refunds with Octopus can also be requested online in a few clicks to arrive back in your bank account within days, assuming no issues. Octopus may impose some limits on this requiring an amount of credit to stay on the account, but they do also offer variable direct debit as discussed above.

If you do switch to Octopus remember to also claim the £50 referral credit, which can also be done in minutes through the online account after the switch. If you don’t know anyone already with Octopus to use their referral code, there are plenty to be found online through a quick Google search (forum rules prohibit them from being shared here).
