Hi, I received a letter today from Opos Limited on behalf of Capquest Debt Recovery ltd relating to a debt for Shop Direct that I no nothing about. I have since contacted Shop Direct and we managed to trace the debt back to September 2007 at an address I haven't lived at since that 2008.
I've never had a debt on my credit file as long as I can remember, and I got a mortgage in 2009, so I would remember something being on it if I did. Shop Direct were confused why this would be being chased after all these years, and this is the first time I have had a letter about it in the 5 years i have lived at my current address, and the 7 years in my previous address. I have had accounts with Shop Direct since 2007 all of which have been closed down with no balances or money owed.
I am yet to contact Opos Limited, but before this becomes a headache I wanted to get some advice before calling them and giving any details

The standard response to an OPOS/Capquest letter is the Prove-it letter
If this comes back as what you think it is, then you send the statute barred letter.
No need or point to phone them and definitely don't give them any info they don't already have1 -
Thanks. Is there a template for a prove it letter you recommend0

It's in the sticky threads on debt-free wannabe

There`s no requirement for a copy agreement to have a signature on it anyway, some less than ethical debt collectors used to perform that trick, but it makes no difference to anything.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
