Will I get accused of fronting? We have 2 cars, one my son (19) is insured on as named driver and shares with me, I’m the main driver and use it year round. He’s at uni far away so can’t drive it term time but will want to drive it in the summer. This was inconvenient last summer so I intend to get a 3rd car as a spare (mums old car she’s getting rid of) which I’ll insure (only) me and my husband  - for our use when my son is back and using the 2nd car on which he’ll remain named driver. This is the honest situation: am I likely to fall foul of any rules?

As long as you drive the vehicle more than your son their is no problem. If he is going to drive it more i.e. cover more mileage, he needs to be named as the main driver. If in doubt, speak to the insurance company.1

Also be sure to factor in that if a person starts a second policy then they (usually) cannot carry over any NCD1

Potentially but the being accused really isnt the problem it's more about you having evidence that they arent using it more than you. Showing evidence that he is currently living or studying a long way from home is clearly going to be a good basis of any argument. Better still if you can pair it with evidence that they dont take the car with them like you having a staff car park permit for it or you buying a monthly season ticket for a car park etc.Whelky said:Will I get accused of fronting? Why not put 3rd car in sons name & insurance, for his use only when home? Will allow him to build some NCB 🤷♀️
Could add yourselves as named drivers to help keep costs down.Life in the slow lane1
