Car Hire Purchase Help

Hi all
Not sure this is the right thread to post on but…
Bought a car through Lloyds Hire Purchase agreement - made 20/60 payments
- got over 5 years as I expected the vehicle to last me a good amount of time
Last few months the engine management light has been on/off - taken it into Ford 5 times and the end result is a new wiring loom and some sensors and pcm (not sure that’s the part but the ‘brain’) - will be just under £5000 to do all the work but the engine loom part isn’t available as they don’t manufacture it anymore - Ford have tried some temporary repairs but it needs the new parts to be resolved and these aren’t possible to get.
Haven’t even had the car 2 years and it will eventually just die and I can’t use it - one of the staff recommended just trying to get rid of it and pay off the losses.
can anyone advise??
I’ve looked at voluntary termination and paying half of the HP cost, or try to part ex it some how - either way I’ll be down financially but can anyone advise as I’m not sure of my rights as the vehicle has engine issues not to my fault and there’s nothing that can be done at the dealership about this
Thanks in advance

How old was the car when purchased, guessing that it is out of warranty.Life in the slow lane0

What was the mileage when you bought it
What is the current mileage?
has it been regularly serviced according to the manufacturer's schedule?0 -

Yeah full service history at Ford
I thought buying from a main dealer was a better option but they’re not very helpful 🥲0 -
Unfortunately, I think you are stuck
Just as a note, if you do go down any VT route, they will expect the vehicle to be functioning and may (will?) make deductions accordingly
I would get a 2nd opinion from a local indie/specialist garage - taking an 8 year old car to a main dealer for anything is rarely a wise move0 -
What car is it? I'd imagine as it's a Ford it's likely that there will be many examples of the right age that are in breakers yards and it should be possible to find the right replacement part. Maybe as suggested find a specialist repairer (possibly an auto electrical) and ask them to source and test the part to make sure it's working before installing it.I'd also consider posting the technical issue (rather than the finance one) on the Motoring board.0

Sadly does not help you, but something to be aware of going forward.
Only real advice would be to try a trusted &/or recommended independent to see if they can fix @ a cheaper price.Life in the slow lane2 -

yeah only went main dealer because 2 local garages said it needed specific diagnostics but will have a look to see if there’s independent specialists around0 -

thanks yeah I did think of trying to find it myself but I’m not car savvy so needed some better advice
yeah motoring is probably better - just wasn’t sure if there was any like protective clauses in the finance agreement sorta thing but thanks0 -
