Hi all, so i gave a friend a metal gazebo to help her out 2-3 years ago and she has not evan attempted to put it up, she has a husband and 2 grown up children whom could put it up, its still in good condition, and im regretting giving it to her. would i be in the wrong to ask politely for it back as i know someone who needs it and would actually build it and use it regularly?

If you gave it to her, then it is hers.

You could ask for if she wants to donate it to your other friend, but I wouldn't mention that you have noticed that she hasn't ever put it up. I would say something like "You've got a gazebo? I know x is looking for one. Are you using yours much? I know she would really appreciate being given one".

you can't ask for it back if it was a gift -
perhaps she doesn't like it?
perhaps you could help her put it up?

Why are you keeping tabs on its use? Seems a bit strange. A gift is a gift. What they do or don't do with it is up to them.

Perhaps you could let them know you have a friend who may be interested in borrowing it if it's not in use but they shouldn't feel obliged

I did ask if she liked it when i offered it to her and she said yes shes always liked it, its not that im keeping tabs with what she does with it, i just notice when im there that shes not using it, i have offered to help put it up and she refuses. I will mention i have a friend who would be interested in borrowing it thank you.
