Universal tax credits overpayments - ex partners debt

I recently received letters chasing me for a debt relating to overpayment of universal credits. I have never claimed them. My ex-partner did while we lived together but I never signed anything. Wasn’t party to the claim, didn’t receive the money etc. They told me to appeal but it didn’t work. Has anyone been successful in the same sort of situation?

Do you mean Universal Credit or Tax Credits- there is no Universal Tax Credits.
Boith are joint claims if you are living together, with both incomes being into the calculations.0 -
If it’s Tax Credit then it’s likely they are chasing you for half of it and your ex for the other half.
Regardless of who received the payment it would have been a joint claim so therefore your liable for 50%.
