Spoke to SABA/ZZPS before finding this forum

Hi there,
Total newbie here. I received a Debt Collection Notic from ZZPS for failure to park at Berkhamsted station SABA car park, with a 170 pound fine (100 plus 70 charge), which was a shock as I hadn;t received an initial notice. I wasn't aware of this forum, and hadn't read the Newbies page, so I called them up to complain. Unsurprisingly they said I had to pay. I have just read the enwbies page and am regretting calling them. I don't remember if I said I was the driver, but I did say I would have been happy to pay the inital fine, which I now know I ought not have done.
Have I shot myself in the foot, or should I continue to ingnore the letter until just before the 6 months (or have i misread the newbies page)?
I'm a total noob at this and ovelry rules following, so find it difficult not to pay up!

Apologies for the questions that I'm sure are aalready answred, I'm stressed by this. I probably ought to have bought a ticket, it;s not like I bought the wrong ticket or similar. I apparently simply forgot to use the SABA parking app. There are ANPR camera at the sation. The probelm is that I did not recvieve the first notice. Shoud I still resist paying?

Yes definitely, never pay a debt collector.
