I've just been told by someone in the council housing.
That RTB is changing from living in the house from 3 years to a minimum of 5 years in the next couple of months.
Just a head up to everyone

Not 5 years - 10 years...

Change is needed - if we are to maintain a decent supply of social housing.7 -
I agree with those proposals, on the whole. We need more decent social housing stock.4

So it will be 10 years before you have the right to buy and then you have to stay 10 years or lose the discount before you can sell.
Sounds sensible5 -
I too agree with the new rules. To many ex council /HA properties are now in the hands of private landlords not the original tenants or their families. We need more social housing not less0

When our council transferred ownership of its to a HA a little under 15 years ago, their terms stipulated 10 years and then another 10 before disposing. Being as this is the case, the bottom end of the market has been quite boyant as there hasn't been a steady stream of former RTB properties coming onto the market.1
