Removal company charges

At the time did they clarify that there may be additional charges? You will need to look through your T&Cs within your contract to see what it says about additional charges. I don’t think its fair that they are charging you extra so i would very much question it, the final bill may have been drawn up by someone who doesn’t know all the details about the logistics and that the depot your stuff is stored in is not the originally agreed depot at an agreed price.0

Does sound like a problem they should have sorted, but on the other hand depends how far you are moving. If they hadn't moved it from the depot local to where you are going would there have been a cost at the beginning rather than at the end?0

So is the depot near to where you were moving from?Crazycat22 said:We are in the process of finally moving into our new house. Our stuff has been in storage since August. When we first instructed the removal company and stuff should have been stored in a depot close to where we are moving to. On the day of removing our stuff which we thought was being taken to the local depot to the area we are moving to we were it was being taken to another depot miles away which would be an overnight stop when delivering our stuff. However, we were told they would try and relocate it to the original depot near to where we are moving, but that did not happen. We have now received their quote and that includes extra costs for bringing our stuff from the depot that is further away. Is that right to charge as it was the company's decision to put it there as they had no lorry/drivers from the local depot.0 -

That does sound frustrating — and you're right to question it. In most cases, removal companies should be transparent about where your belongings are stored and what costs may be added later.
If the depot change was due to a lack of availability or internal logistics (like no drivers at the local branch), the additional fee should have been made clear up front. You could ask for a breakdown of why the items weren’t stored as originally discussed and whether this was avoidable.
We run a Glasgow-based removals business, and transparency on things like storage and long-distance delivery is something we focus on — unexpected costs are a major stress for clients. If it helps, here’s a guide we wrote on how to avoid extra costs during a house move. Please feel free to give me a call if you need any advice on how to respond to them, I would be happy to help.
Hope your move goes smoothly from here.
