If you’re investing for 15-18 years you can really ignore short term movements in the markets or any worries about timing.

A straightforward JISA (I’d say either HL, AJB, or Fidelity are all good platforms for this) and a global tracker fund or ETF is what you need.  Don’t put all your eggs in just the S&P500.  The Fidelity Index World fund is a good low cost option, as is the Vanguard VWRP etf.

The platforms mentioned for the JISAs are HL and Fidelity, which have no platform charges for JISAs, so the lower cost OEIC funds mentioned are the cheapest option.
This is exactly my setup using Fidelity: ETF's in SIPP and S&SISA to keep platform costs down whilst my son's JISA is invested in the HSBC fund (OEIC). Interestingly the JISA was previously invested in the Fidelity P World Index but switched to HSBC as wanted to include EM (it's a personal choice whether you want EM, not worth sweating over and either fund would be fine IMO)
