Keeping old car but should I transfer NCD to new car's insurance when I buy it?

Hi,  I have a 2008 Mitsubishi Colt which has been fantastically reliable for the past 14 years but is starting to show signs of age, although passed MOT without problem. I want to buy a more recent hybrid but as I am attached to the Colt and will not get much in exchange it makes sense to keep it as a first car for my son who intends to learn to drive this year (he's 27 but has been at university and not needed to drive till now). I have 11 years NCD and Aviva quoted £216 to renew the insurance in 2 weeks time - which is lower than any other company perhaps as I have been with them 2 years.  The new cars I have been looking at are 2021 to 2023 models with insurance quotes from about £490 upwards. Do I transfer the NCD to a new car and get a new quote for the Colt, or keep the very low insurance with NCD for the older car and have no NCD for the new purchase?

After running figures through several price comparison websites I tried getting an online quote from Aviva for 2 cars as they said there was a 10% discount. But the combined price they quoted was £1213! This means they were quoting £997 + 10% for the new car which is more than double the amount given on most other websites. This seems ridiculous - do you think it would be worth me phoning and speaking to someone at Aviva about it?

Any advice appreciated.

You can try getting quotes and juggling the NCD around to see which gives you the best price.
Some years ago I dontate my NCD to my son's insurance and started again from zero on mine; the saving was several thousand.
