in Cutting tax
Hi, is there a way to be notified when your tax code changes please? HMRC keep changing mine as more untaxed savings interest is being reported to them, presumably an estimate based off last year. I won't earn enough to need to pay tax, but it would be helpful to know when my tax code is being changed, just so I can keep track of it really. Thank you

Some of the information changes quickly, is my own opinion or may be incorrect. Verify anything you read before acting on it to protect yourself because you are responsible for any action you consequently make... DYOR, YMMV etc.

I get an email to tell me when there is a new one1

They should either send a letter or email. If you’re not getting either you need to check why not - your home/email address could be out if date. I use the HMRC app, I get a notification on my tablet (I don’t have things like that app on a phone) and then soon afterwards I get an email to say there are messages in the app.ForumUser7 said:Hi, is there a way to be notified when your tax code changes please? I don't think you will receive any notifications, either by post or email prompt.ForumUser7 said:Hi, is there a way to be notified when your tax code changes please? If you mean you are not paying tax at all, for example earnings or pension £8k plus untaxed interest of say £3k then your unused allowances are being used by the interest but you should end up with a code that still means no tax would be deducted from your earnings or pension.
The key thing is that tax code allowances remain more than your earnings or pension and you can check that by adding a 9 to the end of your tax code.
So say your new code was 857L then that is tax code allowances of 8579 and your employer or pension payer won't deduct tax unless your annualised earnings or pension hits 8580.
If HMRC's estimate of your earnings or pension is wrong and they have code 857L but you know your earnings or pension will be say 8600 then you can just update that via your personal tax account and as there are less spare allowances you would get a new tax code of 860L.
If you mean something totally different i.e. you are paying tax on your earnings or pension but don't expect to on your interest but haven't had a new code when your employer or pension provider had then can you provide a bit more detail?1 -
Is there a reason HMRC don’t notify those who aren’t paying tax? OH and I get the notification plus email - OH must have had 6 this year - but we’re on PAYE.Dazed_and_C0nfused said:

Have you signed up for online correspondence?
Is you address up to date?
You can check your code if you go into your personal tax account.1 -
Thanks all
I’m already signed up for online correspondence, and my email and address are up to date.
I have notifications enabled for the HMRC app.
I’m on PAYE through my job, it’s just that I don’t earn enough to have to pay tax.
Unfortunately looks like I may need to contact them to sort it

HMRC might send you a copy of the latest code but if you aren't liable to tax you won't get them automatically when anything else changes.ForumUser7 said:
