As per the advice on the Citizen's Advice website (and elsewhere), "If you’re on a fixed tariff contract you can switch if you have 49 days or less left on your contract [without paying an exit fee]".

This is just a query regarding that. I'm with EDF - on their web portal it states re my tariff:
"Fixed term expires immediately prior to 01/05/2025".

This suggests the tariff applies up to and including the 30th April (i.e. to the end of the day)... so 49 days before that is 12th March (calculator).

So by my calculation it'd be possible to change tariff (or indeed switch supplier) on the 12th March... do my fellow esteemed forumites concur with this thinking?

Many thanks.

Yes, but I always give it one day extra to be on the safe side.

    49 days is seven weeks.
The first of May is a Thursday, so count back seven Thursdays. I make that the 13th of March.

On reflection I think you are right in that one needs to count back from 1st May, rather than from 30th April which is what I had been doing in my original post. (The fixed tariff still being in effect throughout the entirety of 30th April, i.e. it expires at the very end of that day.)

You will probably be emailed just after the 49 days have started with recommended offers. I was, and took their 'Exclusive Fixed August 202v2'. Whether that was wise with the reduction in electricity standing charge after April remains to  be seen, I think it will be cheaper than any new fixed rates based on the April cap.
