in Credit cards
ok, just a bit of a moan.
amounts used are for illustration purposes only
have a CC with a limit of £3000, unused for ages and no BT/spend offers worth having. checked eligibility for a second card and was offered £5000. thought i'd be clever and close the old card first in the hope i may bet a larger limit.
now i'm offered £1000 on the new card
lesson learnt but no real clue whats just happened. i'll wait a while and see what happens.

Closing your old card didn't make them reduce the limit - either their internal criteria changed between the two quotes you requested, or they re-examined your credit file and found something they weren't aware of before.
But yes, you shouldn't close them before you get the new one (unless you're closing it long in advance so your available credit is reduced). Sorry to rub it in but for future reference, this applies doubly to Lloyds as you can transfer your credit limit between cards.1 -

Bear in mind for next time that you can also just change the card you have to a different one if you do it in the app0
