He will be working from home on his laptop full-time. He did want to be cooking his lunch on the gas hob because he said he likes a hot lunch!

I would guess the extra gas cost would be about 10p.
I would be more concerned about them leaving all the washing up !

But house owners don't spend all day in one room is what I mean.

I pretty much do, from 6am to 10pm in the same room. Work, eat and game in the same room from when I get up to when I go to bed. There is a triple bunk bed in there for visitors but I think my wife might have something to say if I slept in there as well :D
Hope you are taking Vitamin D tablets !

your lodger should ask his employer to meet some or all of the extra cost if the wfh has been imposed by the employer.
Otherwise, your lodger an claim tax relief on the extra heating/ fuel costs. Proof will be required, otherwise i think its 20% of £6 a week, so £1.20.

I just don’t know what to do. He is a very good lodger very respectful very clean and tidy so I don’t want to lose him but equally to be honest I’d rather he wasn’t working from home.

He wants to know the ins and outs of exactly how much it will cost per kilowatt and it’s driving me insane!

Do you think an extra £50 a month on his rent would be unreasonable?

I work from home as well, so I suppose the extra Costs for heating and stuff would be negligible really

Are you at home all day?

As daughter working from home, has made no difference to our bills, as we are at home anyway, or only out for a couple of hours at most.

Did he cook when he was working elsewhere?

Even if you charged a £1 a day, that would be more than covering extra costs.

Yes, I am at home all day.

He didn’t cook when he was at work but he bought hot lunches from the shops.

Having someone working from your home will most probably affect your home insurance, you need to check your policy.
We don't know what sort of work. If it's remote working, I doubt it.
