OP price up the car with its current spec elsewhere, try car wow and drive the deal etc and see what comes up. Also do the same for your original spec car. You might be left in the position to give to tell your current dealer to jog on.0

If the dealership are in breach of contract then they are liable for any foreseeable damages.
Rights to vary the terms are very limited and unlikely to be fair if written to cover a screw up by the trader.
What does the contract say about the delivery date OP?
Personally I’d be a very polite thorn in their side in the hope they give you the higher spec car at the agreed upon price.@A_Geordie might have more to say on this one.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
It's highly suspicious that the dealer first of all orders the wrong spec then, within hours of you telling them you are committed to the purchase because you have sold your car, suddenly 'discover' their mistake. How convenient, because if they had discovered it earlier you'd have had time to back out, and if they'd discovered it when you came in to pick up the car they'd have a scene in the showroom.
The upshot is, the dealers are either scammers or they're incompetent. And if they were incompetent they are also disreputable, as they haven't offered you anything by way of an apology. Either way I would not deal with them. In your position I'd get that deposit back immediately and use it to buy a daily car you can drive and sell at no loss whilst you look for another.2 -

Op I would Def cancel, if you find a replacement elsewhere and the cost has increased, they are liable for the short fall.0

Dealer has found a higher spec car somewhere with a bigger profit margin for them, sounds like they are working a scam on you. Is this car the same colour as your original order?Moneysaver0

We ordered a new car specifying we wnted heated seats.
The salesman insisted we could get them on the basic model.
We read the brochure which said they came with the next model up, which we were happy to buy, but he insisted that we could get them on the basic model. So that was what was ordered - basic model with heated seats.
Went to collect the car, after 11 weels wait, and first question was there are no heated seats. No, basic model does have that option so factory just went ahead and produced a car without them.
The salesman was astounded when we said 'no, thanks, but we want one with heated seats.' He was none too pleased that they were now left with a new car on the books.
We waited another 11 weeks for the model we wanted. Fortunately, we were trading in our existing car so that was not a problem until we confirmed it had had accident damage repaired, which the original salesman had been told about. However, they honoured the original trde in price.
He did say that salesman no longer worked for them.1 -

And I'd lay bets this was intentional by the dealers.0
