O2 continue to take payments after contract expiry

Looking for some advice.

I had a 2 year contract with O2 and it expired in mid August last year. I got in touch with O2 in July stating that I did not want the contract to continue when it was due to expire but rather I want to move to PAYG after my final bill.

The O2 agent said that they would process this for me. The direct debit was paid again in September. I put that down to possibly their system requiring time update and it would be refunded. Direct debit was paid again in October, and still paid again this month!

I called up again in October, agent said that I was actually supposed to have a PAYG SIM card available to complete the switchover and they also submitted a complaint on my behalf.

I complete the complaint email asking for more information. Then in January, they respond with the case has been closed as I did not respond to their previous email asking for more information! Each email to O2, I received a automated response and I checked again and my email was definitely sent to them! I have no reply from them since I replied back with my previous email. Thats 6 months of direct debits taken after I told them I didn't want to the contract to continue.

Anyone any idea what to do now?

talk to your bank about the DD guarantee.  Presumably you have proof in the emails that O2 was going to stop them and refund and a complaint was lodged for you so the bank should be able help.

Why did you not cancel the direct debit?
  • Thanks, I will give that a try.

My O2 account still says its on pay monthly despite multiple requests to change it.

I was told when I first called that the payments would stop after the final bill. This hasn't happened and nor have they switched my account to PAYG

Get a pac and use it to move to another provider. That will definitely cancel your contract.

Be warned, if you don't use it within 30 days your existing contract will continue to run.
