Erroneous Transfer Charter

I inadvertently contacted ‘moneyexpert.com’ when after advice on improved electricity and gas rates.
They discussed a new supply option in which I was interested but said that I wanted first to discuss with my wife.
Before I had a chance to speak with them they had contacted my provider EON who had closed my account and App without my consent.
Out of principle I phoned them back to say I wouldn’t be dealing with them as I was concerned that they had gone ahead without my authority.
I then dealt with British Gas myself and opened an account.
Unfortunately,my complaint with moneyexpert has not been answered and I have subsequently found out that British Gas and moneyexpert seem to be linked as the sae company.
Any thoughts on this- I’m concerned re breach of GDPR regulations and above all the dreadful way I feel I have been taken advantage of.

I'm not sure you are using the word 'inadvertently' correctly.
As far as I can tell moneyexpert.com is a comparison site so not linked to British Gas but sounds as though that was the best deal for you (they are a terrible company but that's for a different thread).
It sounds as though they jumped the gun in initiating the transfer but you cancelled it and then went with the same company directly.
I'm not sure what outcome you are looking for from a complaint as they will have already lost out on the commission for signing you up and I'm not sure where the breach of GDPR is as presumably you handed over your details to them to try and get a better deal.
  • I fortunately hadn't provided any bank details to them.
I'm not after any financial outcomes if that's what you are asking- I'm  merely concerned that they were able to close my account with EON without my consent and they also provided inaccurate information to tempt me to transfer to them.
    Surely they can't do this?
They are also not open in their links with British Gas - I thought that I was dealing with moneysavingexpert.com but my browser took me to moneyexpert.com who i thought were an independent company who could offer unbiased advice.
For your information, I particularly like British Gas as they charge half price for electricity on Sundays when all our washing/ tumble drying/ ironing and dishwasher is carried out.

    Log a complaint with them.
If you are not happy with the result you can go to FOS

Most of these sites get paid by the receiving company for pushing a new customer to them. That will be the only connection with British Gas.
