voluntary redundancy declined

Options
Our company had to make redundancies .
there were 5 of us   4  of us on 35hrs and one  on 14 hours
they only had funding for 70 hours so they had us complete a matrix and score ourselves on our skills.
my colleague  advised she wanted to take voluntary redundancy , however they offered the 14 hours worker her job and then offered 2 staff 28 hrs.
My colleague was then declined redundancy as there was a job for her . i would think this is wrong as they aren't offering her the same conditions re hours and pay . They told her she did better than the others on the matrix score so obviously they wanted to keep her  does anyone know the rules re reduced hours ?.

I wouldn't think this was very defensible if you all scored yourselves with no moderation, however, the company can decline any request for voluntary redundancy.
If the 4 of you have contracts for 35hours pw, then I think it's a new contract with the reduced hours and your colleague can decline to sign the new contract. she'd need to be clear of the consequences as she might be deemed to have resigned (no redundancy pay, and intentionally unemployed?)
If you were thinking that she would leave and you would be offered that role, you have to realise that people do change their minds in these difficult circumstances.

I'm going through the exact same thing this week. My company would consider that a reduction from 35 to 28 hours is a considerable change of employment and as such we would be entitled to refuse it and still get our redundancy pay (I know this because one of my team is currently part-time and the jobs on offer are full time, she's been told that if she is successful on the scoring she will have the option to accept the full time job or redundancy)
I don't know however if that is due to legal reasons or if my company is just being as helpful as possible in that instance

hI YBR thanks for your reply  I wasn't thinking of going for the 28 hrs I  have been offered full redundancy  and I am happy with that ( my score was lower than hers on the matrix)  it was also scored by the company as well and they agreed I was lower   but i was happy anyway,  but  I do feel my colleague has been wronged . Another colleague was offered redundancy as she refused the 28 hrs  but she wasn't entitled to any pay not working for 2 yrs , it seems like a sham not to pay out redundancy money . . 28 hrs wasn't even offered to me as they knew I was retiring in 2 months  anyway , guess I was lucky but not so my colleague,

Thank you Floray   at least your company has a good moral attitude,   cant say the same for mine ,!
