Help!

Just got a new car. I cut one of my tyres when I hit a kerb. Do I need new tyre?

If you go to an INDEPENDENT tyre shop, they will advise you on what you need to do.

A slight nick that would not concern me.

Any damage to the tyre sidewall is probably going to be an MOT failure - for good reason - so I would imagine a tyre shop would say it needs replacing, even an independent one.

Provided that there are no cords showing even if you open the flap out with your fingers, then the tyre is perfectly legal and will pass MOT. (MOT testers handbook 5.3.2)

Keep an eye on it in case there is internal damage and it starts to bulge- unlikely from the picture.

when it is dry a drop of superglue will secure it so that it looks a bit better as jeffuk says.

More importantly, get the humbrol enamel or some clear nail varnish to that paint chip and make sure you seal the edges ASAP. If deadly corrosive road salt gets under the edge you will have massive corrosion and paint lifting.
If you can nearly match the colour and superglue the flap of rubber your eyes won't be drawn to it every time you look at the car.

That is what a little glue is for.

That just looks like the rim protector portion of the tyre doing the job it's designed for.

Stop driving into kerbs. You've also taken a chunk out of the rim. Is the car on PCP or lease?
