Train from London to Bempton

Options
I am hoping to go here in June/July to see the birds, if it rains I won't go.
When do people think is the latest I can book without paying a lot?

Advance tickets available at about 13/14 weeks]]

PS How are you going to get from Taunton to Bampton ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

I don't actually live inTaunton, to be honest I can't remember why I chose this user name - but I think it was a misspelling of a different name.

My question though is what is the latest I can buy an advance ticket as I don't want to buy too much in advance.

Without any details of the route or train company its impossible to say.

It is quite possible to buy advance tickets minutes before the train leaves.

I'm guessing some editing has gone on since the thread was started as I can't see anything that would bring Taunton into the journey!
Assuming that the OP wants to go to the RSPB Bempton Cliffs then the best train route is likely to be London King's Cross to Bridlington, either with one change at Doncaster or two changes at York and Seamer. I don't know whether there is a bus service to Bempton but if not it's close enough to Brid that a taxi shouldn't be extortionate.
Friends who were there at the weekend said that the puffins are back at the moment, not sure what'll be there in June/July but hopefully you've chosen the time as it's good for what you want to see.

My user name is also a company name in Taunton (hence the reference).  In June and July there will be a lot more birds than now.

There is a train station in Bempton and the walk is not too far.daveyjp said:

Is it possible to buy advance tickets at a reasonable price a couple of days before the train leaves?
On national rail the cheapest I can find for Thursday is £180 in 2 months £150 so a bit extra.

Yes there is a train station at Bempton on the Sheffield to Scarborough line that you can pick up at Doncaster or Hull. Note that advanced tickets are probably not available direct to Bempton so if you want one of those you will need to get one to one of the major stations then a separate one to Bempton (which you can get on the day, same price).

LNER gives me £100 return for mid-May but doesn't even offer June or July yet. You'd only get a few hours. Might be better to overnight as there are no financial advantages on transport in returning the same day.

But to give you a clue, trainline recently quoted £37 single Yorkshire to King's Cross, then £44 the next day, with a rail card. Bought direct from LNER at £28. Less than a week before travel.

There is a regular bus from Brid to North Landing which gives you a walk along the cliffs to Bempton.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

For east coast stations check out Hull Trains from Kings Cross.  They have fares from £25 each way to Hull.  You can then take an onward service to Bempton.

There are boat trips from Brid as well to see the cliffs that might be worth considering.  This one is linked to the RSPB

Train fares are a black art. The latest I've ever bought an advanced fare was about half an hour before travel. But that just worked out for what I wanted, it won't be true for all trains or routes.
