How do i persuade step son to rejoin his employers pension??

    unless you know full details of his finances I don’t you think you are in a position to do anything . Yes it’s never a good idea to leave an employers scheme but what if it is genuinely down to affordability?
    his hobbies are not excessive by any means .

    Also at 36 I think he is old enough to make his own decisions if mentally capable . You may add the comments back what is he going to live on in retirement etc but at the end of the day it is his decision.

    Ultimately you can't force someone to be frugal.. pensions aside, people will have different levels of how much to spend and enjoy now vs save for later. Saving doesn't have to be in a pension scheme, all that does is amplify the benefit of saving through tax benefits. 

    All you can do is draw your boundaries on how much you'll help. If there's help that stepson is expecting, then it would be kinder to disabuse him of that notion sooner than later. 
    If you wanted to say you'll only allow him to move in if he saves £xyz in a pension / otherwise, or if he has a plan to get on his feet in X months time, for example.
