CLI debt collectors - Italian traffic offence.

Hi all, hoping for some guidance on a slightly unusual case.
I have just received a letter from CLI (Credit limits international) regarding an apparent traffic infringement while in Italy 2 years ago for driving in a prohibited zone. I was in a hire car at the time on a work trip.
However, some two years later, this is the first ive heard of it. The address is wrong on this letter (wrong door number). I'd actually completely forgotten until now, but I do remember receiving an email from the hire company when i got back home, asking me to confirm my address because they hadn't taken down my door number.
The fine is for £300, which doesn't really feel reasonable for what is presumably an accident in me not understanding local traffic signs or rules. It is from Servizio Di P.L. Commune Di Bellagio.
Just looking for some advice on how best to handle this before I send any sort of response or acknowledgement to this firm.

IGNORE.Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
