Can anyone help with NCB, I'm really confused. Took out a policy today to start in a few weeks.
In March 2022 my policy ended with Aviva and I had 12 years protected NCB. I then went with Budget Insurance and they said I had 9 years NCB at the end of their policy. I then went with One Call Insurance and they also had 9 years NCB (that policy ended early as I sold the car).
I've had no claims or accidents or any losses since March 2022 (and none for long before that) but how do I calculate what my NCB is please. Does anyone know. It's mind boggling. Thanks

First of all, does it make any difference at all if you say you have 9 years or 14 years? Many insurer's max out NCD at 5 years, some do something else between 5-9 years and virtually no one considers anything above 9 years. No matter if you have 5, 9 or 59 years NCD you drop to 3 years after a fault accident.
If it makes no difference then life is easier if you say 9 per your latest policy, if the insurer is in the minority who'll charge you less for having 14 years then speak to the insurer BEFORE buying... they are an oddity and will be used to dealing with people being unable to produce a cert for over 9 years so will tell you want to do. In most cases it'll be send your 2022 renewal plus the renewals of each year since but with One Call it will be an NCD certificate as you ended the policy early.0
