MODA IN PELLE - fall to bits shoes!

I bought a pair of sandals from Moda in Pelle in the summer to put them away for my winter holiday as the choice is very limited in winter. They were expensive at £50 for a simple 'jewelled' flat sandal. However, on the first wear on holiday 2 of the jewels fell off.
Unfortunately I couldn't find the receipt but took them back in the box to the shop - you can see from the sole that they've hardly been worn. I was hoping for a refund as the occassion I wanted them for has passed, but they said they could only send them off to be repaired. All very well and good but I wont wear them until next summer now and what if the same thing happens when I wear them?

Am I being unreasonable hoping for a refund on a pair of £50 shoes that broke on first wear? I now have to travel back into the town centre (an hour and a half bus away!) to collect them

Demand a full refund under teh Sale of Goods Act - they are not fit for purpose. The Act applies for six years. I did this with a pair of sandals I had had nearly a year but that on second wear broke - a hell snapped totally off and I spent a whole evening out with only one shoe!

THe shop gave me the same blather as you've had, but I stood there and refused to leave or move away from the till until I had a full cash refudn. Ten minutes later, I got one.

Stand firm and if necessary get advice from Trading Standards to make you feel more confident in your argument.

I think they are justified in what they are doing.
