I chose to switch from variable Octopus to an Eon fixed deal via the Energy Club but just got an e-mail saying they've signed me up to a variable tariff that's more than I'm paying now! Now I've got one week to make sure it's changed or the switch is cancelled!
Does this happen a lot?

No, it didn't require a smart meter, nor do I have one. Maybe they pulled the deal in between me starting the switch and them acknowledging it? I feel like that should have cancelled the switch though, not just moved to the variable one.Octopus say I can cancel the switch any time, so I'll just do that if I don't hear back from Eon in the next couple days. Womp womp. Doesn't give me much faith in the Energy Club either, unfortunately.0

Are you sure it was a fixed deal? Eon Next have a tariff that promises to be £50 less than the SVT but when that goes up, so does the "deal" tariff.Reed1

So apparently it was just some glitch on their end. They sent me documents saying I was signed up to the Next Flex deal, which is variable, when I signed up to the Next Fixed 15m deal.
But after a back and forth over e-mail, they assure me that those documents were sent in error and should be ignored.
This was nothing to do with misunderstanding the costs, or the tariffs on my end. Cheap Energy Club is quite easy to follow in that regard.

Log in to your portal and check your tariff. I wouldn't trust their word alone.0

I activated my online account as you suggested and that seems to indicate that I'm on the deal I'm supposed to be. BUT I can't seem to get them to confirm over e-mail or anywhere in my account details, what the unit and standing charges of my deal are. The only ones I've been sent documents for were for the incorrect deal... I'll give 'em one more day.
