Car Insurance

Well, after years of using the same company I've decided to change my car insurance, it was rock steady for years, but last year took a whopping increase and its doing it again.

Whatever happened to loyalty, I know prices have gone up, but checking on go compare i can save 150 quid by changing to any one of a few dozen *(good companies).

So, who do people recommend please. Good, reputable, companies, not backstreet brokers. I've got until 30th March.

Loyalty does not pay for all the claims that the insurance companies have had to pay out.

Who to choose is a hard one. So long as your not claiming what difference does it make?

I've just renewed having become a state pensioner in the last 12 months and have found prices have dropped by around 10% and believe me, I've been to all the comparison sites and many other companies directly.

My age is the only risk that has changed.

Will be getting £45 back via Topcashback too.

Why would loyalty come into a mass produced product that is primarily bought on price?

Brokers will usually be on a back street because they cannot afford the high street rates and rents.   It is logical for them to be on a lesser street.   Avoiding them because of their location in the town would be a  bit harsh.

I've been to others in the past, ie RAC, AA, Pru, Coop etc but the same ones now for over 20 years.

Putting it up, by relevant amounts not small amounts, twice running, when I've made zero claims too..... time for a change.

My car insurance is down £8 on last year but I have gone with a different company (nearly always do), also I go thru Top Cashback for £45 too so premium for the year is £147 which isn't bad.

I was talking to my neighbour earlier today and he asked if my car insurance had increased massively this year - it has actually gone down a small amount.  Last year he paid about £500.  Renewal quote was nearly £1300 and other quotes came in at up to £1900.  He has no idea why as it's still the same car, same house, no claims, no significant birthdays...  Thankfully for him, he did eventually manage to get cover for £600.

I find if you call your insurance company they somehow manage to find an amount to knock off their own quote! So much for giving you their best price

RAC and AA are both brokers, historically at least one was just a white label of Budget brokers. Pru was a white label of Direct Line Group/RBS Insurance but Coop used to be an insurer and now are a broker.
